As a «memory of the Tyrol», the Tyrolean State Museums have been deciding for almost 200 years which artworks, information, views and standpoints are to be preserved – and which will simply be forgotten. The exhibition «Forgetting: Fragments of Remembrance» at Ferdinandeum reflects the political and social power of this process. Works of art – by Christian Boltanski, Maria Lassnig, Brigitte Kowanz, Peter Kogler and others – are juxtaposed with literary texts, opening up new spaces for thought. Who is still familiar with the glove finger spreader? What does the fact that the tobacco cutter is losing its significance mean? How do we treat monuments? Viewers are invited to leave digital traces that will disappear shortly afterwards. In two rooms visitors will be carried off into a virtual reality. The result is a visit and an experience that will be hard to forget.
